Bigfoot or hiker? See the video and decide for yourself.

Here is the description on YouTube:
This video was only uploaded for the benefit of a couple of friends, we had no intention for it to gather the interest it has. We are not claiming this to be anything other than a strange encounter based on some of the reasons below:

1) We were able to view the subject much better than what the video portrays as it was just a simple point and shoot camera. Contrast was excellent due to the snow behind the subject.

2) The subject was clearly bipedal and was without snowshoes or a backpack and wearing all one coloured clothing. Movement over this kind of terrain in soft snow without snowshoes would have been very difficult and the distance traveled over the given time period would have been very fast for a human without proper snow travel gear.

3) There was a very steep drop off below where the video was shot, easily a 300m sheer face. We were not equipped with climbing gear and a descent around would have been impossible before nightfall.

4) We have encountered bears on the approach to this summit in the past, this video is most definitely not showing a bear or any other wild animal.

5) Perhaps the most reasonable explanation for this video is a very ill prepared hiker, hiking up a difficult section of snowline as opposed to a much easier route, one who is very physically fit and able to cover ground in unusually quick fashion and must have had very large feet as we were breaking through snow crust in just our boots.

Video of Bigfoot in Idaho

The Zapruder-like quality of the video makes this recent Bigfoot sighting believable...

Or maybe not.

"Gorilla" on the loose in rural Alabama

ABC is reporting that authorities are "on the hunt for at least one gorilla" that was spotted in the rural Alabama town of Newbern. Another witness reported seeing what may have been a bear, but none of the sightings have yet been confirmed by home or surveillance video.

The closest zoo is nearly 100 miles away in Birmingham. Officials there confirmed that the zoo's only gorilla is present and accounted for.

So...there's a bear-sized, ape-like creature running around rural Alabama? Come on, ABC! Can't you at least mention what everyone else is thinking?

"Irrefutable evidence" of Siberian yeti?

I love a good Bigfoot story. Naturally, you can imagine my excitement when I read that researchers had found "irrefutable evidence" of the existence of the Abominable Snowman.

A group of international scientists set out on an expedition to the Kemerovo region of Siberia. There, they found footprints, a supposed bed, and various markers used by the yeti to mark its territory. All the evidence collected will be analyzed in a special laboratory.

OK, so this really isn't anything we haven't heard before. As usual, time will tell.

Story behind alleged Yeti finger involves actor Jimmy Stewart

I've always been fascinated with the field of cryptozoology. That's the search for animals whose existence has not been proven. Yes, I'm talking about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. Wonder, mystery, exploration of the unknown. What's not to like?
Alleged Yeti finger found at a Buddhist Monastery in Nepal
You can imagine my excitement when I read of what was purported to be a mummified finger from an actual Yeti. The story is rather intriguing. During the 1950s, wealthy American oilman Tom Slick funded a series of Yeti expeditions. In 1958, one of his explorers, Peter Byrne, informed Slick of an ancient Yeti hand discovered in a Buddhist monastery in Nepal. The monks were reluctant to part with it, fearing they would be cursed, but they were eventually persuaded to sell one of the fingers as long as the hand could be disguised so that the missing digit would go unnoticed. Byrne was given a human finger from a professor friend in London who had links to the Royal College of Surgeons, and it was wired onto the original hand and treated with iodine so that the color matched.

This is where the story gets interesting.

The previous year, the Nepalese government had made it illegal for foreigners to kill a Yeti, so the challenge was to smuggle the finger back to London without it being discovered by authorities. Slick turned to an old friend of his whom he knew to be vacationing in India at the time: legendary actor Jimmy Stewart. Stewart had an interest in cryptozoology and had been a silent partner behind Slick's earlier expeditions, so he was eager to help. He hid the finger in his wife's lingerie case and was able to smuggle it out of India without any trouble.

Once the finger reached London, initial observation led to the conclusion that it wasn't human. It was eventually turned over to the Hunterian Museum...and was then simply forgotten. No one knows why.

The finger was rediscovered recently, and a sliver of it was submitted to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland for DNA testing. The result? Human.

Kind of a disappointment, but not surprising. However, I think it's safe to say that the search for unknown and unproven creatures will go on.

Bigfoot shot, dumped in swamp; hunter refuses to release photos

Account of the incident sketched by Owen on a cocktail napkin
Lemon Harangue News

FOLKSTON, Ga. - A Georgia hunter is claiming to have shot Bigfoot. Barry Owen of Folkston allegedly killed the elusive creature in a wooded swamp outside his home town late Monday night.

"I was out turkey hunting," Owen said. "I had set up camp in the woods, and a huge crash woke me up." That's when Owen grabbed his gun and ran outside to investigate.

"It was huge, smelly, and covered in hair," recalled Owen. "He had been scrounging through my supplies, and when he saw me he let out a loud roar and started to charge. I didn't have any choice but to shoot him."

After confirming that he had indeed shot Bigfoot, Owen said he took some pictures of the body and then dumped it somewhere in the Okefenokee Swamp that straddles the border between Georgia and Florida.

"I wanted to be respectful," Owen said. "The fact that no one has ever recovered the body of a Bigfoot indicates they are very ritualistic. They take great care in concealing their dead. Besides, I didn't want the area to become a tourist attraction."

When asked why he didn't at least bring in a tissue, blood, or hair sample to be analyzed, Owen said, "No need. I'd know that hairy son-of-a-gun anywhere. It was him, all right."

Owen is also hanging onto those pictures for now. "It's important to make sure that graphic photos of a Bigfoot that was shot in the head are not floating around causing a bunch of crazy animal rights activists to get their panties in a bunch."

"I don't need to trot out this stuff as trophies," Owen added. "The fact is this creature attacked me, and he got what he deserved."

Owen is no stranger to bizarre incidents. He says he once saw Elvis Presley in a diner outside of Barnesville, and he also claims to have been abducted by extraterrestrials in 1979.

"People are going to doubt me," Owen said, "but they're just going to have to take my word for it. Bigfoot is dead."

Bigfoot Spotted in North Carolina?

I'm a sucker for a good Bigfoot sighting. Every time I hear a report -- like the latest one from North Carolina -- I really, really want it to be true.

Then again, having definite proof of the existence of such creatures would probably ruin the mystique.

(Hmmm...North Carolina. I wonder where Congressman Bob Etheridge was that night.)

Bigfoot Still at Large

Well, it was only a matter of time before this came out:
Turns out Bigfoot was just a rubber suit. Two researchers on a quest to prove the existence of Bigfoot say that the carcass encased in a block of ice -- handed over to them for an undisclosed sum by two men who claimed to have found it -- was slowly thawed out, and discovered to be a rubber gorilla outfit. The revelation comes just days after a much ballyhooed news conference was held in California to proclaim that the remains of the creature were found in the North Georgia mountains was the legendary man-ape.
So, the search continues.

(Funny how no one seems to be taking any interest in my theory. Oh, well.)

Bigfoot Found?

That's what sasquatch hunters Matthew Whitton (AKA Gary Parker) and Rick Dyer of Georgia are saying. And they claim to have the body to prove it!

From their press release:
  • The creature is seven feet seven inches tall.
  • It weighs over five hundred pounds.
  • The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.
  • It is male.
  • It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes.
  • It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot.
  • The feet are flat and similar to human feet.
  • Its footprint is sixteen and three-quarters inches long and five and three-quarters inches wide at the heel.
  • From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are eleven and three-quarters inches long and six and one-quarter inches wide.
  • The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.)
  • The teeth are more human-like than ape-like.
  • DNA tests are currently being done and the current DNA and photo evidence will be presented at the press
Whitton and Dyer will be holding a live press conference tomorrow in Palo Alto, California, at 12 noon PDT. For a picture of the purported creature, check out their site, SearchingForBigfoot.com.

Proof of Bigfoot Found on Mars!

A mysterious "creature" has been sighted on the Martian surface. My theory: It's the ever-elusive North American Sasquatch.

Sure, go ahead and laugh. But compare the image sent back from Mars to the famous Patterson film:
And I'm not the only one who thinks so. Really.

Pictures don't lie, people.

The bottom line is that we're probably dealing with a technologically advanced society of planet-hopping primates -- which, if you think about it, would explain why we have such a hard time finding them here on Earth.
