Modern medieval-style knight fights

Are traditional MMA fights getting too boring for you? What if we threw some armor on the competitors and tossed a couple of swords into the ring?

As our parents used to say, "It's always fun until someone loses an eye."

Hilariously honest reaction to the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup win

Definitely one of the best post-game reactions I've ever seen.

Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte of the Oakland Athletics is a natural. I heard he's been playing baseball since he was a tadpole.

Button football championship coincides with World Cup

Have you ever heard of button football? Neither had I, but it's apparently pretty popular. It even has its own World Cup of sorts:

So where were ESPN's cameras during all the excitement?

Nike soccer ad plays like a Pixar film

Sure, it's a Nike ad, but this would make a great Pixar film:

Video shows skydiver almost getting hit by meteorite

If you decide to go skydiving, be sure to watch out for meteorites. Anders Helstrup, member of the Oslo Parachute Club, was wearing a helmet cam that caught images of a meteorite narrowly missing his open chute. A geologist confirmed that a meteor had exploded in the atmosphere about 12.5 miles (20 km) above Helstrup and his fellow skydivers.

And, yes, this is entirely believable.

Former quarterback Phil Robertson and his second-string backup honored at Louisiana Tech

In case you didn't already know, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson was the starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech back in the 1960s.

(Image: ESPN)

Robertson's second-string backup was some guy named Bradshaw something or other. The school honored the two former players during a home game last month.

Don't expect quidditch to be an Olympic sport any time soon

Fans of Harry Potter are familiar with the game of quidditch, a rather violent game played by kids flying around on magic brooms:

Author J. K. Rowling claims to have invented the game in a small Manchester hotel after a fight with her boyfriend. Makes sense.

Believe it or not, quidditch is also played in the real world. There is even an International Quidditch Association, complete with its own set of official rules. The IQA is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and its "mission is to promote, develop, and govern the sport of quidditch and inspire young people to lead physically active and socially engaged lives."

In case you're wondering what a game of quidditch played by a bunch of muggles might be like, take a look at this match between UCLA and Emerson:

OK, so it's much more exciting in the world of fiction. But then again, what isn't?

7-year-old cancer patient scores 69-yard touchdown

Seven-year-old Jack Hoffman has been fighting brain cancer, but that didn't stop him from being the MVP at Nebraska's spring football game on Saturday. I think it will be difficult to top this as the most heartwarming moment in sports this year.

Replace your usual Super Bowl snacks with bacon

For many health-conscious folks who want to cut out unnecessary carbs and avoid the problems associated with a diet high in grains and processed foods, the "paleo diet" is the way to go. The bad news: such a diet doesn't allow much room for the usual Super Bowl snack fare. The good news: those foods can be replaced with bacon!

Amy Kubal, a registered and licensed Dietitian, provides this handy comparison chart to show you the bacon equivalent of your favorite game day foods:

About that Packers-Seahawks game...

For those still scratching their heads over the controversial call at the end of Monday night's Packers-Seahawks game, this excerpt from the NFL Rulebook should clear things up:
In the event of simultaneous conflicting rulings on the field, the official in the black and white stripes shall have precedence over the official in the white and black stripes.
There. Case closed.

Oklahoma school bans kindergartner from wearing University of Michigan shirt

One of the nice things about homeschooling our kids is that we don't have to deal with idiotic rules and the control freaks who make them. Case in point:

Great Britain's Mo Farah running away from things
